Meet the Team: Alister Veitch

Our Head of Business Development Alister has worked in the Anaerobic digestion area for over 20 years having started his career at Thames Water and progressing onto senior project development roles at Biogen and Ørsted. He is responsible for the upstream sourcing of biomethane from developing new and further expanding existing sites. We were able to pull Alister aside from his busy schedule to ask him a few questions about Acorn’s mission.

What made you join Acorn Bioenergy?

The project is one set to make a difference. My observation of a great bunch of people assisted my decision to get involved in Acorn’s shared vision.

What are the benefits of Anaerobic Digestion for everyone?

For everyone, the benefits are that we ease our reliance on imported gas and fossil fuels, making the UK able to stand on her own two feet in the Energy sector.

Do you agree or disagree with any common AD complaint such as the ‘disruptive factors’ ?

There are transport increases as a result of operations. But people forget the land chosen has always been farmed so traffic is not an anomaly. We are refocusing that that traffic for an equally important process.

Is Acorn a financially sustainable enterprise?

Yes, the whole business model is built on sustainability. We create the biogas and digestate that we sell to the agricultural community. replacing fossil fuel alternatives while also providing new jobs for local people and contracts for local contractors.

Are you focused on responding to consumer and public fears/concerns?

Yes, it is ethically important for us to minimise the impact for locals by reducing light impact on sites, height pollution and transport movements at peak times.
